63 Million Caregivers in Crisis..

This Report Opened My Eyes

Hey family, it’s Michael, back again with a Tuesday message.

Yesterday, I came across several posts from my LinkedIn connections discussing the Caregiving in the US 2025 report, presented by The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and AARP.

Initially, I expected the usual statistics and updates, but as I dug deeper, I realized the magnitude of this issue is far more critical than I had anticipated.

As a father of two, with one child being neurodivergent, I know firsthand the challenges and stresses caregiving brings. But the truth is, millions of families are facing this same struggle.

The report reveals that 63 million Americans are currently providing care for their loved ones, many balancing full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and medical needs all at once.

And the numbers don’t stop there:

  • 45% increase in caregivers since 2015.

  • 16 million "sandwich generation" caregivers, who balance care for both children and aging parents.

Personally, the term "sandwich generation caregivers" really hits home. It’s hard to imagine the stress of caring for your child with special needs while also caring for aging parents. It’s not just a challenge for individuals; it’s a challenge for entire families.

The faces of caregiving are as diverse as America itself:
(US Census Bureau 2023b)

  • Middle schoolers helping parents through cancer treatment while managing schoolwork.

  • Adults juggling careers with caring for aging parents and raising their own children.

  • Retirees supporting adult children with disabilities.

Regardless of how rich the data is in this report, the burden on caregivers is growing, and it's not a secret. Too many caregivers are forced to dip into savings, take on debt, or even delay retirement to make ends meet.

This is where we come in.

But, let’s be clear: what we do is just one small component of the overall planning needed for families facing unique challenges.

This is a team effort!

And when I say team effort, I mean, when creating a full plan, it takes time and involves professionals like attorneys to help you navigate the complexities of guardianship, power of attorneys, and trust planning.

But having the conversation, and taking that first step, is the most important action. Don’t wait until the situation becomes overwhelming.

This could be the wake-up call you need to reassess your planning.

Share this with your family members, they need to hear this too. It’s never too early to start planning for what lies ahead.
